COURSE OVERVIEW:

Attachment Awareness For Carers aims to increase the understanding of attachment theory and enable participants to apply attachment theory to the practice of assessment, planning and care of children and young people.

COURSE CONTENT:

  • Describe attachment theory
  • Explain the development of attachment
  • Explore how experiences in earlier relationships create internal working models and attachment styles that systematically affect future relationships
  • Understand the impact of separation, loss, abuse and neglect on children’s development and their capacity to form attachments
  • Make links between theory, research and practice
  • Apply attachment theory to the assessment of children and families and to care planning
  • Use an attachment perspective to enhance child-parent/carer relationships
